Eli Sherlock
Lecturer
Eli Sherlock (he/him) teaches the Model Making and Vectorworks CAD Drafting classes in the Department of Theater.
Originally from Minneapolis, he is now a Los Angeles-based scenic designer working in theater, film and live entertainment. His design credits include The Wiz at The 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle; and in Minnesota, Hello, Dolly!, Jelly’s Last Jam, Chicago and Assassins (Theater Latté Da); Lord Gordon Gordon (Minnesota History Theater); Follies, Little Shop of Horrors and Bad Dates (Artistry Theater); Baskerville and The Liar (Park Square Theater); The Passage (7th House Theater); Violet, Clybourne Park, Next to Normal and The Rainmaker (Yellow Tree Theater); Guys and Dolls and Revenge of the Space Pandas (Lyric Arts); The Christians and The Coward (Walking Shadow Theatre Company); and The Marriage of Bette and Boo (Theater in the Round Players).
Sherlock has assisted in the studios of Myung Hee Cho, Derek McLane and Sara Clement; and has worked with The Public Theater, The Old Globe, The New Group, Asolo Repertory Theater, Artists Repertory Theatre and The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, among others.
He has five seasons experience working as an IATSE (Local 13) run crew member for The Children’s Theater Company in Minneapolis, along with four seasons working as a festival and venue technician for the Minnesota Fringe Festival.
In film, Sherlock has worked as an art department assistant on Spider Man: No Way Home (additional photography), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (L.A. unit) and Moon Knight (additional photography).
He was the 2013 Design Fellow at The Seven Devil’s Playwright’s Conference (now Seven Devils New Play Foundry) and received recognition for Excellence in Scenic Design from the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival National Conference for his scenic design of Almost, Maine at the University of Michigan. Other academic awards include The Eiko Ishioka Memorial Award for Excellence in Scenic Design, the DeMille Award in Production Design and the Earl V. Moore Award in Theatre.
Sherlock received a B.F.A. in theater design and production from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and an M.F.A in design and entertainment media from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.
