The UCLA Emerging Filmmakers Virtual Production Workshop introduces students to one of the most exciting innovations in contemporary filmmaking. Over the course of this two-day intensive, students explore how filmmakers are using LED wall technology and real-time 3D environments to create immersive cinematic worlds directly on set.
Through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops, students learn the fundamentals of virtual production and how it is transforming the way films and television shows are made. Participants work with a professional LED volume stage, the same technology used on major productions such as The Mandalorian and Wednesday.
By the end of the workshop, students will have practical experience working with virtual production tools and will capture footage they can incorporate into their own filmmaking reels.
This two-day workshop combines lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on production exercises designed to introduce students to the core concepts behind virtual production. Students explore how filmmakers use LED volume stages and real-time rendering technology to create immersive environments directly on set. Through guided instruction and a series of rotating practical exercises (which may vary by session), participants gain foundational knowledge of how virtual production integrates cinematography, visual effects, and production design.

This track is open to 2024-2026 Digital Filmmaking and Cinematography Students. Students must be enrolled in 9th-12th grade, and must have a GPA of 3.2 or higher.
