Intermediate Acting Summer Institute

Develop techniques to take your talent to the next level and book the audition room.

Program Overview

The UCLA Intermediate Acting Summer Institute is a four-week, 8-unit intensive intended for artists who want to strengthen their skill in front of the camera and on stage. Participants will create content for their reel and take classes focused on acting, audition technique, improv,  Kung Fu inspired stage combat and sketch comedy.  Every student will walk away with the tools to relate to the camera lens, approach to understanding a script along with identifying specific choices that can be made to prepare and connect in the audition room. Beyond the classroom, there will be guest workshops, field trips to a Hollywood Studio, improv nights and more.

Program Details

Commuter

As a commuter, housing contracts are not available through UCLA Housing Department, however, the UCLA Summer Hostel that is located on the residence hill provides housing options for all registered UCLA Summer Sessions students who are 18 years of age or older. For those who will not securing housing on campus, it is expected that students who fall into this category will commute to class daily.

Schedule

July 20th-August 15th 2025
Students are engaged in activities and classes along with breaks throughout the day from 9:30 a.m.-10 p.m.

Grades and Transcripts

Program participants will earn units of credit on a letter-grading basis and will be recorded on an official University of California transcript. Please note that official transcripts are not automatically sent to students. To request a transcript, please contact the UCLA Registrar’s Office.

Theater 138; 4 units

Requirements

Applications are reviewed and admission to the program is granted on a rolling basis starting February 15th. Applying at your earliest convenience, prior to June 1st, is highly recommended.
Applicants who successfully submit all requirements will be reviewed and notified via email of an admission decision within 2 weeks.
As part of the application process, you will be asked to complete the following:
  • A video audition of 1 – 1 ½ minute contemporary monologue
  • A resume (if you do not have a resume, submit a brief description of your theatrical and/or artistic experience) The resume can be uploaded as a Word or PDF file during the application process.
  • Upload an official transcript
For the video audition component, you will need to upload your video and make it private on YouTube, Vimeo, or a similar site and then paste the private link during the application process.
All students must have taken UCLA Theater 20 or its equivalent. California Community College Students should check assist.org to review the classes that fulfill the requirement.
