Amy Winfrey (she/her) is an animator, director and producer. She is the creator of the animated television series Making Fiends, and directed on all six seasons of BoJack Horseman. Amy got her start in the animation industry working on the first season of Comedy Central’s South Park, and animated on the feature, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut while completing her MFA at the UCLA Animation Workshop. During her time in the workshop she also began making short independent web cartoons, starting with her thesis project, MuffinFilms. After graduation Amy continued to create and animate new web projects, including the series Big Bunny, featured in the NY Times best-selling book L8R G8R, and Making Fiends, which was developed into a television series for Nickelodeon with Amy as the creator and co-executive producer.
In 2013 Amy began directing for television shows, including Tuca & Bertie, Adam Ruins Everything and twenty-one episodes of BoJack Horseman. She directed both BoJack episodes that were nominated for an Emmy, “Free Churro” and “The View from Halfway Down,” and the Annie award-winning episodes, “The Dog Days are Over” and “The Client.” Amy was most recently at Warner Bros. Animation as a Creative Producer, and was the Supervising Producer on Velma.
Throughout her time in the industry, Amy has taught at the UCLA Animation Workshop. Inspired by her students, she continues to make independent films. Her animation has been featured in the Annecy International Animated Film Festival, the Seoul International Animation Festival and The World Animation Celebration. Her recent film, AI Training, which she made upon discovering that her art style as being used to train an AI art program without her consent, received over two million views on TikTok, and is an official selection at the Gold Coast International Film Festival.
