Jie Zhou

M.A Student, Cinema and Media Studies

Jie Zhou (she/her) is an M.A. student in Cinema and Media Studies at UCLA, holding a B.A. degree in Cinema and Television. Born and raised in Guangdong Province, China, as a migrant child, she grew up immersed in the region’s rich local culture while being profoundly influenced by Hong Kong’s dynamic cinematic and cultural landscape. Her research primarily employs textual analysis and critical film theories with a keen focus on the intersection of gender, sexuality, and cinematic language.

Beyond academia, Jie actively engages in film-related extracurricular activities, participating in film festivals and production projects. As a dedicated female researcher and practitioner, she strives to bridge the gap between scholarship and creative practice, continuously exploring the evolving landscape of contemporary cinema.
