How alumna Sareeta Young and her production company BlkReels are breaking down barriers to film

UCLA Film, Television and Digital Media alumna Sareeta Young (BA, 2020) is leading the charge for equity in filmmaking through BlkReels, film production company dedicated to breaking down industry barriers for Black filmmakers and underrepresented voices. After transferring into TFT, she realized that she wanted to create her own opportunities for success. Upon graduation she founded BlkReels, creating that opportunity not only for herself but for others. The Oakland-based company runs the gamut of film production and advocacy, from capturing and hosting live events, producing documentaries and photography, and helping to educate aspiring filmmakers in the community.
With her experience navigating the industry as a filmmaker, creative strategist, and advocate, Young infused BlkReels with an understanding of the challenges aspiring filmmakers face. The platform provides resources, funding, and networking opportunities, making the industry more inclusive and accessible. By fostering a space where diverse stories and talents can thrive, Young is reshaping the future of filmmaking and ensuring that new voices get the platform they deserve.
