Lecturer, Administrative Coordinator
Jonathan Burke is a lecturer and administrative coordinator at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television and a theatrical sound designer, engineer and educator with 28 years of sound design and engineering experience in the UK, Hong Kong and the United States.
He began his career as a teenager in England working on the BBC's Domesday project at Cambridge University. Shortly thereafter he moved to Hong Kong, where he attended The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, School of Theatre & Entertainment Arts, earning a degree in technical theatre, music and television arts. After moving to the United States, Burke continued his study of theatrical sound design and music, earning a degree in music video business at the Arts Institute of Pittsburgh and a degree in theatre arts at the University of Pittsburgh.
He has served as the resident sound designer for Pittsburgh's City Theatre Company and the Three Rivers Shakespeare Festival. He is the resident sound designer for Cabrillo Music Theater in Thousand Oaks, Calif., and his local designs have been heard at The Geffen Playhouse, The Getty Center, UCLA's Royce Hall and numerous other venues throughout Southern California.
