Chancellor's Arts Initiative Grants
 
Creative projects that focus on important issues of cultural visibility and responsibility authored by TFT faculty members Michelle Liu Carriger, Rory Kelly, Gina Kim, Deborah Landis and Sylvan Oswald are among those chosen to receive Chancellor's Arts Initiative Grants, which fosters the advancement of the arts and arts-related scholarship at UCLA. Theater and Performance Studies doctoral student Elizabeth Schiffler is focused on the role of storytelling in food equity, sustainability and systems thinking. With her artistic cookbook "Imagine Dinner," she has created a marriage of food and performance.

Inaugural API Film Night

May 22: In celebration of the diverse Asian and Pacific Islander (API) communities at UCLA TFT, Sophie Changhui Shi (MFA ’21), Zheng Nate Nie (MFA ’17) and Merry May Ma (MFA ’25) have created API Film Night. Join us for a screening of eight films made by API MFA alumni. A post-screening reception will follow.  RSVP/Free

Screenwriter Elizabeth Baxa (MFA ’19), is a staff writer on HBO’s Perry Mason.

Camden Gonzales (BA ’10) is the associate choreographer for the North American Tour of Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

Masami Kawai (MFA ’13) has been selected take part in the latest edition of the Sundance Institute's Directors and Screenwriters Labs.

Lena Khan (BA ’07) will direct the Bollywood comedy Best of the Best for Amazon Studios. She is also attached to direct an adaptation of the classic children’s book The Cricket in Times Square for Spyglass.

In the Garden of Tulips, written by and starring Ava Lalezarzadeh (BA ’20), won the Youth Jury Award at the Academy Award-qualifying Aspen Film Shortfest.

Yee Eun Nam (MFA ’14) has been nominated for a Lucille Lortel Award in production design for her work on Once Upon a (korean) Time.

James Olivas (BA '19) and Sam Linkowski (BA '20) were featured in the recent revival of The Secret Garden at the Ahmanson Theatre.

Did You Hear About Kitty Karr? Crystal Smith Paul’s (BA ’05) debut novel about Hollywood, old and new, has been published.

Nicolette Robinson (BA ’09) has written a children’s book, I Love You More Than You’ll Ever Know, with her husband, actor Leslie Odom, Jr. (Hamilton).
