What is the connection between destroying a piano and history’s unreliable narrative? Distinguished professor Chon Noriega will explain when he gives the 131st Faculty Research Lecture, a virtual event entitled “Destruction in Art, Art in Destruction,” on Thursday, April 28. Noriega’s lecture focuses on the life and work of artist Raphael Montañez Ortiz, founder of the 1960s destructivist art movement, who has used destruction as an art form grounded in ritual, psychoanalysis and neuroscience.
