Sweet Charity (1969)

September 27, 2014 @ 7:30 PM

UCLA Film & Television Archive and the Hugh M. Hefner Classic American File Program, in association with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, present “What I Really Do is Magic: Edith Head and Hollywood Costume Design.”

Sweet Charity (1969)
Directed by Bob Fosse

In his screen directorial debut, Bob Fosse is amply supported by Edith Head’s inventive costumes, which bespeak a swinging, far-out New York explored by disenchanted dance-hall hostess Charity (the dazzling Shirley MacLaine) in her search for a better life and genuine love. As Charity shuttles between social sets, Edith Head also dazzles with some of the most outlandish and imaginative costuming of her career.

Universal Pictures. Producer: Robert Arthur. Screenwriter: Peter Stone. Based on the play by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields. Cinematographer: Robert Surtees. Editor: Stuart Gilmore. Cast: Shirley MacLaine, Sammy Davis Jr., Ricardo Montalban, John McMartin, Chita Rivera.
