Stage Door & 5th Avenue Girl

November 9, 2013 @ 7:30 PM - 10:00 PM

UCLA Film & Television Archive and the Hugh M. Hefner Classic American Film Program present “Our Man Gregory La Cava.”

“Stage Door” (1937)
Directed by Gregory La Cava

Director Gregory La Cava’s flair for improvisation and high wire performances reaches its zenith in Stage Door, a heady ensemble drama set in a New York boarding house that teams with the wised-up patter of struggling actresses. Katharine Hepburn and Ginger Rogers spark and spar as unlikely roommates riding waves of success and disappointment—mostly disappointment—in their pursuit of stardom until tragedy strikes. Stage Door was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
