Brandon Wilson
Lecturer
Brandon Wilson is a filmmaker and lecturer who teaches Film Analysis for Filmmakers and Introduction to Editing at UCLA TFT.
In 2005, he made his feature debut, The Man Who Couldn’t… for less than $10,000 on standard-definition digital video. The film debuted at the 2005 Pan-African Film Festival and won the Oscar Micheaux Award at the Bare Bones Film Festival in Oklahoma.
His second feature, Sepulveda, was co-directed and co-edited with his wife, Jena English. Improvised with non-professional actors, the film had its world premiere at the 2016 Urbanworld Film Festival in New York City. It received a Special Achievement Award at the Culver City Film Festival and a Best Ensemble Acting Award at the Silicon Beach Film Festival. The film concluded its festival run at the 2018 Indie Memphis Film Festival where Wilson participated in panel discussions with directors Boots Riley and Sebastián Silva.
In addition to UCLA TFT, Wilson also teaches auteur courses at Columbia College Hollywood. He blogs and has been a guest on several film-oriented podcasts.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Wilson received his B.A. in African-American Studies from UCLA and his M.F.A. from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.
