Dean Schwartz named to Governing Board, prize jury by LA-India Film Council
Joins Bollywood filmmakers Kapur, Mehra, Bhatt and Kukunoor in global educational initiative

TFT Dean Teri Schwartz, a governing member of the global film industry organization LA-India Film Council, has been selected as a judge of its upcoming online short film competition, LA-India Connect. The goal of the competition is to "encourage creativity and ideas from film students in India and Los Angeles," according to the Hollywood Reporter:
"The LA-India Film Council was launched in 2010 to promote ties between Hollywood and India with a joint declaration between the City of Los Angeles and the Indian film industry. The council's governing members include representatives from leading organizations and companies from both sides such as: the Film Federation Of India; Film and Television Producers Guild of India; California Film Commission; Office of the Mayor of the City of Los Angeles; Technicolor India; Reliance MediaWorks; Film and Television Institute of India; University of Southern California-School of Cinematic Arts; and UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television and the Motion Picture Dist. Association India (the local office of the MPA), among others.
"LA-India Connect invites student filmmakers to submit 10-minute shorts based on the “Hollywood – Bollywood theme” with the winners from India and LA each receiving a cash prize of $1,000 and an opportunity to gain experience with a leading production company.
"The competition jury includes: director Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth); UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television dean Teri Schwartz; MovieLabs president and CEO Steve Weinstein; Indian directors Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Mahesh Bhatt and Nagesh Kukunoor; Film and Television Institute of India director D. J. Narain; Whistling Woods International Dean Ravi Gupta and Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce president D. Suresh Babu.
"Entrants can submit their entries from Monday through August 14 via the contest website (www.1takecontests.com) run by Indian content aggregator and distributor 1takemedia.com. All participating films will also have an opportunity to generate revenue through Pocket Films, the short film division of 1takemedia.
""The LA-India Connect contest leaves the canvas open for students to paint their imagination through the medium of short films. I encourage all participants to push their creative boundaries and express themselves through their films,” said Shekhar Kapur.
"LA-India Connect will help a dynamic and diverse range of students take their education and creative work a very promising step forward while bringing two of the world’s largest filmmaking communities together for this very important contest.
