The UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television Storytelling Institute at UCA is an initiative to nurture the next generation of outstanding cinematic storytellers by creating a high-level professional graduate feature film screenwriting class that takes place in coordination with the Cannes Film Festival.

The initiative was formed by the Université Cote D’Azur (UCA), the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television (UCLA TFT), the Mayor and the City of Cannes, France, in collaboration with the President and Director of the International Cannes Film Festival and support by Vivendi.

The Institute is an annual, open application, invitation-only graduate-level immersive program in screenwriting that brings UCLA TFT’s unparalleled, professional faculty instruction in feature film screenwriting to the selected participants providing them with support and guidance throughout the six-week program. This unique and distinctive program takes places within the innovative cross-disciplinary environment of the new UCA located in Nice, France. Throughout the program, participants will be housed together working in a creative environment to help them hone and craft their skills as storytellers. It concludes with a two-week capstone experience of master classes with distinguished filmmakers and screenwriters, discussions, special screenings and other professionally oriented activities at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.

UCLA TFT alumni have received 1714 award nominations and wins for Academy Awards, Annie Awards, ADG Awards, ASC Awards, Daytime Emmy Awards, Directors Guild of America Awards, Golden Globe Awards, Gotham Awards, Goya Awards, Grammy Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, NAACP Awards, Ovation Awards, Producers Guild of America Awards, Emmy Awards, Tony Awards, Writers Guild of America Awards, among many others.

Applications to apply for the Institute will open on Saturday, July 1, 2017. The deadline for submissions is Sunday October 15, 2017.
