TFT and Telluride Film Festival Partnerships
In 2011, Dean Teri Schwartz embarked on the creation of FilmLAB in conjunction with the Telluride Film Festival. Executive board member Frank Marshall, ’68, was the symposium's founding sponsor. FilmLAB is a multi-faceted program focused on the art and industry of filmmaking, custom-designed for 10 select TFT graduate film students who are invited to attend Telluride. They learn from the greatest filmmakers in the world in a workshop/lab setting, enjoy exclusive sessions with world-renowned writers, producers and industry leaders, and experience the festival like VIPS. In 2012, students had the opportunity to mingle with actor-director-producer Ben Affleck who shared not only his knowledge and experiences but a sneak peek preview of his satirical thriller "Argo," which went on to win the Best Picture Oscar in February 2013. In 2013, students met with documentary filmmaker Michael Moore.
Dean Schwartz and Telluride also co-curate an exclusive program called For the Love of Movies, which brings inner city students to the UCLA campus for a year of special screenings. For the Love of Movies is managed by the TFT student group ELEVATE.
The strategic partnerships between TFT and Telluride continue to celebrate excellence in cinema by investing in the education of emerging humanistic storytellers through our combined leadership and resources.
