Degree Requirements

Students must 1) Demonstrate basic competence in film and television production either through previous course work or by completing appropriate courses at UCLA; 2) complete the first animated film by the end of the first year; 3) after advancing to candidacy, complete a theses film acceptable to the thesis committee; 4) maintain graduate residence for a minimum of 6 quarters, maximum of 12 quarters.

The Master of Fine Arts degree is awarded on the basis of successful completion of the required courses and critical evaluation of student work. The Department expects consistent progress as well as attainment of professional skills. These and other factors will also influence the Department’s allocation of production resources including the number, scale, and scheduling of projects and productions.

** courses are sometimes taught as a core course for MA students and may not be available that particular quarter to MFA students.

Students must also choose one other course in the Department that is outside of the animation program as approved by their advising committee.

Upon completion of course requirements, students must propose their thesis project, select a thesis committee and advance to candidacy.
