About the Event

Animation Workshop alumnus David Silverman ’79, MFA ’83 has been bringing Matt Groening’s wigged-out “Simpsons” clan to life from the very beginning. He was one of two original animators of the sly interstitial shorts on Fox’s “The Tracy Ullman Show” in 1987 in which Bart, Marge and Homer first walked the earth.

As the School’s special guest at Orientation 2008, Silverman joined Dean Rosen in conversation on stage at the Freud Playhouse. Incoming students who watched the show reel that preceded Silverman’s appearance were audibly delighted to learn how many of their favorite early Springfield moments he had animated: The horror movie parody “The Shinning” (sic), Homer’s delirious romp through an Alpine village made of chocolate, and many more.

His continuing association with the milestone series as it moves into its 20th season, along with a lengthening string of feature credits that already includes “Monsters Inc.” and “The Simpsons Movie,” qualify David Silverman as one of the most influential pop culture creators of the last half century.
