David Hoberman’s Disney-based “Mandeville” Films has teamed with the U.K.-based Spice Factory, W1 Films and Germany’s FrameWerk on the feature “Five Fingers.”
Psychological thriller follows a young Dutch idealist who, after being kidnapped in Indonesia by local terrorists, must engage in a mental chess match to learn his captors’ objectives.
Project, which is out to casting, was written and will be directed by Laurence Malkin. He recently wrote, directed and produced “Soul Assassin,” starring Skeet Ulrich and Kristy Swanson.
Michael Cowan and Jason Piette will produce “Five Fingers” on behalf of Spice Factory, with Hoberman and Todd Lieberman producing for “Mandeville.”
Stefan Jonas and Rose-Marie Couture produce for FrameWerk, and Malkin and Kelley Reynolds produce for W1.
In a statement, Hoberman and Lieberman said, “We’re excited to be getting into the world of independent filmmaking, and ‘Five Fingers’ is the perfect project to start with.”
Hoberman is a producer and Lieberman a co-producer on Walt Disney Studios’ upcoming “Bringing Down the House,” a comedy starring Steve Martin and Queen Latifah that will be released March 7.
Hoberman also produces “Raising Helen,” starring Kate Hudson and directed by Garry Marshall, and “Providence,” written and being directed by Jeff Nathanson, who penned “Catch Me if You Can.” Both pics are at Disney.
Spice Factory is currently in production on “Head in the Clouds,” starring Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz; “Different Loyalty,” with Sharon Stone; and “The Bridge of San Luis Rey,” starring Robert De Niro.
FrameWerk just wrapped production on “Company,” directed by Robert Altman.
