Alums Louis J. Horvitz '68 and Chuck Sheetz ’83 won two of the major awards at this years Acadmy of Television Arts and Sciences ceremony on Sunday.
Horvitz won a record 6th Emmy for "Outstanding Directing For a Variety, Music or Comedy Program," for steel-nerved guidance of the “80th Annual Academy Awards.” This was Horvitz's 13th nomination in the category and his 10th for an Oscar telecast.
Sheetz handed “The Simpsons” its tenth Emmy win as “Outstanding Animated Program (for Programming Less Than One Hour)" for an episode he directed, “Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind.”
Several other Bruins were also nominated:
Daniel Attias MFA ’82, for the “No Cannes Do” episode of HBO’s “Entourage,” his second nomination for work on this program
Alumna Mariska Hargitay, nominated for the fifth time as “Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series” for “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.”
Visiting Professor Conchata Farrell, teaching in the UCLA Arts Camp/Workshop, is a cast member of “Two and a Half Men,” which was nominated as “Outstanding Comedy Series.”
Visiting Assistant Professor Laura Karpman was nominated for “Outstanding Composition for a Miniseries, Movie or Special” for the “Jerry Was A Man” episode of “Masters of Science Fiction.”
And UCLA Professional Program in Screenwriting alum Berkley Johnson was nominated for “Outstanding Writing For A Variety, Music Or Comedy Program” for his work on “Late Night With Conan O’Brien.”
