“Ramayana La’ar” (“Rama’s Journey”), a dance theater epic created by Francis Tanglao-Aguas ’95, MFA ’00, Assistant Professor of Theatre and Sharpe Faculty Fellow at The College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, VA. Tanglao-Aguas is negotiating an Asian tour for the show, which had its premiere in March in a sold out run, and is already workshopping a sequel, “The Sitayana.”
Tanglao-Aguas won Best Director and Best Play for “Ramayana La’ar” from the Virginia Gazette, with acting awards going to lead players Adam Schartup and Rashmi Joshi. Stills are available on Tanglao-Aguas’s blog, with articles and reviews.
This is the YouTube trailer he created for the piece:
Tanglao-Aguas sees these pieces as “advertisements for the work of UCLA’s professors, especially Edit Villarreal, Peter Sellars, Michael Hackett, Hanay Geiogamah, Michael McLain and Rich Rose, who were my closest mentors.”
