“The goal of Voice Films is to develop the capacity of young filmmakers and animators to express their voices through digital filmmaking and to provide a vehicle to share their authentic voices with mainstream audiences worldwide. By authentic voices we mean voices representing local communities, diverse ethnic groups, personal issues, young women and men, and underprivileged youth. We hope to accomplish this in a manner consistent with the principles of positive youth development.”

Along with the help of Quyen Tran (2nd yr graduate cinematography student at UCLA) Lerner is mentoring a high school girl named Cyrene Chan, who has been going to all of the production meetings, rehearsals, and eventually the film shoot of Lerner’s 2nd year advanced narrative film project, entitled “HOW CAN YOU BE SURE”“, a short film about woman trapped in a life she hates and finding herself having to choose between two men who are equally unhealthy for her. The film will screen at the 2nd annual VOICE Film Forum in June 2005, and Lerner and Quyen will be conducting day-long workshops on Directing, Cinematography, and MFA Producing student Jayne Belliveau (who is producing the project) has been invited to give a producing seminar to the 200-300 aspiring filmmakers ages 14-20 who will attend.
