Biography

Becky Smith is a film and television director based in Los Angeles. Smith is in postproduction on the feature film “16 To Life,” a romantic comedy shot on location on the Mississippi river that features veteran screen actor Theresa Russell as well as talented newcomers Hallee Hirsh and Mandy Musgrave.

Smith recently completed the TV series How To Look Good Naked, starring Carson Kressley. She is also directing the feature documentary The Daring Project, which chronicles a world premiere with five principal dancers from the Bolshoi, Kirov, NYC Ballet and ABT.

Smith was nominated in 2004 for an Emmy in directing (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy), the same year the show won an Emmy, and has directed numerous series and pilots for networks including MTV, MTV2, NBC, Fox, Disney Channel, PBS, Fuse and ABC Family. Her documentary on Title IX, “In the Game,” received numerous awards, including Best Television Documentary of the Year from Women in Radio and Television.

Smith has received grants for her work from Women In Film, the California Arts Council and AFI. She received her Masters degree in film from Stanford University and has extensive theatre directing experience. She is an alumna of the American Film Institute’0s Directing Workshop for Women and Movie of the Week Writer’s workshop, as well as the Squaw Valley Screenwriter’s workshop.

Smith is currently directing a web series for Nikon, Look Good In Pictures, featuring Carson Kressley, which has new episodes posted weekly.
