Final Cut Pro Suites

Location
Melnitz

The Final Cut Pro Suites are twelve little rooms primarily used for graduate editing on Final Cut Studio 2, one-on-one review of projects with teachers and other classmates, researching the sound effects library (with over 13,600 sound effects), exporting quicktime movies and using cinematools for creating cut lists. Each of these small, individual suites is home to either one apple Mac Pro or one Apple G5 computer, a set of stereo speakers with subwoofer, and dual computer displays. The suites allow more privacy for editing projects than the labs. When needed, DV decks or miniDV cameras can be connected for capturing or outputting tapes for classes and screener copies. Students can also be set up to connect their own non-controllable devices to record in via analog lines, these include devices like personal Hi8 cameras, DVD players and VCRs. Like all rooms in the post production and sound departments, students provide their own firewire drive for media storage. All of the suites are the same with exception to the following unique amenities: Suite 5 is our “capture room,” with a permanent SONY DSR-20 DV deck connected for students to use, 24-7, for capturing or outputs to tape. Room 2563 is the Faculty Editing Suite and is reserved for access and use only by UCLA Film and Television Faculty.
