The success of Intolerance in Japan in 1919 prompted production company Shochiku to take a more realistic approach with Souls on the Road, which crosscuts between stories of mercy and forgiveness, and is itself, now considered a milestone of early Japanese cinema.

Live musical accompaniment by Cliff Retallick

Director: Minoru Murata. Screenwriter: Kiyohiko Ushihara. Cast: Kaoru Osanai, Haruko Sawamura, Denmei Suzuki.

35mm, b&w, silent with Japanese intertitles with English subtitles, 91 min.
