Mysterious Island (UK/USA, 1961)
Directed by Cy Endfield

This fanciful adaptation of Jules Verne’s 1874 novel, atypical for director Cy Endfield, called upon his knowledge of American genres, European locations and the dramatization of group dynamics. Here, a group of Union Soldiers in the American Civil War escapes a Confederate compound in a hot air balloon, landing on an island full of outsize and mysterious beasts, animated by Ray Harryhausen.
