UCLA Film & Television Archive and the Hugh M. Hefner Classic American Film Program present “Blonde Crazy: Joan Blondell”
Three on a Match (1932), directed by Mervyn LeRoy
“You’re a fool, Vivienne. Take it from one who has been there.” So advises Joan Blondell’s chorus girl to Ann Dvorak’s bored socialite sinking into a boozy, criminal underworld in this scorching pre-Code classic. The inimitable, sympathetic grit with which Blondell delivers the line lies at the heart of her appeal to Depression-era audiences.
