LAURA KARPMAN Ask Your Mama! (World Premiere, commissioned by Carnegie Hall)

Ask Your Mama!, a collaboration between four-time Emmy Award–winning composer Laura Karpman and five-time Grammy winner Jessye Norman, is a multimedia presentation on a text by Langston Hughes, Ask Your Mama: 12 Moods for Jazz.

Four-time Emmy award winning composer Laura Karpman is a distinguished and versatile creative artist whose career spans film, television, videogame, concert and theater music. She is particularly gifted in creating works that bring together music, image, and narrative. Her concert scores have been commissioned by percussionist Evelyn Glennie, the Cabrillo Music Festival, Tonya Pinkins, the American Composers’ Orchestra, and the Juilliard Choral Union, among many others; her theater catalog includes three musicals composed for Los Angeles's A Noise Within theater company. Among her many media music credits are Steven Spielberg's Emmy-winning 20-hour miniseries Taken, plus numerous films, television programs and video games, including Everquest II & Halo 3.
