Message from the Dean
What world are we preparing our students for?
As the Dean of TFT it is my great honor to be back at my alma mater in this exciting role to steward our magnificent legacy and to answer this very important question.
I like to think of us as the storytelling school.
Humanistic storytelling, global diversity and cutting edge research will always be our centerpieces. But digital technology has become a real game changer. As a result, these are the times that demand a new approach to educational enterprise - one that will meet the challenges of a highly interconnected world.
To that end, I have a simple call to action: no more silos, no more boundaries, no more barriers.
And we are doing just that - creating a 21st century interdisciplinary curriculum that nurtures and develops outstanding artists and scholars with the skills, confidence and connections to successfully navigate the interconnected worlds of entertainment and performing arts. Whether mainstream, independent or emerging digital media, our students will become the creative leaders and scholars whose diverse voices enlighten, engage and inspire change for a better world.
I often say to our students: It's your job to invent the future, and it's our job to provide the environment and the resources where that is more likely to happen. Our job. Your job. A special collaboration, and the heart of the magical alchemy that has always been, and will always be, uniquely, TFT.
Come join us in creating what's next. The future is you.
Dean, UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television
