Mariano Diaz

Lecturer

Mariano A. Diaz is a costume designer and production designer with more than 16 years experience in the entertainment industry.

Born in Mendoza, Argentina, Diaz moved to Los Angeles with his family in 1986 and soon after began pursuing his childhood dream of working in Hollywood, starting as a production assistant in the art department at Warner Bros. In 1994, after completing his apprenticeship at Warner Bros., he became the youngest illustrator to join I.A.T.S.E. Academy Award-nominated costume designer Bob Ringwood and production designer Barbara Ling hired Diaz to design, illustrate and sculpt the intricate costume for the villain Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger) in 1997’s “Batman & Robin.” This was the start of a collaboration with Ringwood that lasted almost a decade.

As a production designer, Diaz has designed several independent feature films as well as a slate of music videos for major rock bands.

Diaz continues to work as a concept illustrator and designer, while creating his own films. He recently teamed up with a group of fellow artists and filmmakers to conceive a slate of simultaneously created high-concept independent films and video games.
