Screenwriting alumna takes Slamdance teleplay prize

Beverly Neufeld wins $10,000 in Norman Lear-sponsored competition

Alumna Beverly Neufeld MFA ’01 has won the Annual Slamdance Teleplay competition. Her pilot, entitled “The Claytons,” took the $10,000 top prize in the Scripted category.

Neufeld describes her first teleplay, a White House drama, as "West Wing" meets "Brothers & Sisters." “I invented a political dynasty,” she says. “Forget the Kennedys, forget the Bushes. The Claytons will rule the world.”

The award will be presented during an event hosted by the Writers Guild of America, West, on September 22 in Los Angeles.

Norman Lear’s holding company, Act III, sponsors the Slamdance Teleplay competition.
